Brittany Cora

Assistant Principal of Instruction

A native Memphian, Brittany began her teaching career in 2010 as a middle school English/Language Arts teacher. It was in that first year of teaching that she knew that she wanted to be a change agent for the students in the Greater Memphis area. She remained grounded and passionate about ensuring that all students received an equitable education no matter their zip code. She has been in education for more than 10 years and feels purpose in making sure that students have life changing educational experiences in their classroom with educators who continue to lead radically. In 2016, Brittany was accepted into the Aspiring Principals Program with New Leaders, where she served as Resident Principal at Corning Achievement Elementary School in Frayser. It was there that Brittany continued to build her own capacity around sound instructional practices as well as strong culture.
Brittany received a Bachelor of Art in English from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2009. She went on to receive her Master of Education degree in Secondary Education from Union University as well as her Instructional Leadership endorsement from Bethel University. Brittany is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Instructional Leadership from Freed-Hardeman University.

Welcome to East Academy!

Our commitment at East Academy is to provide a safe and intellectually challenging environment that will empower students to become problem solvers and inspired learners prepared to thrive in the world in which we live. High standards and expectations for each student is the core of our school.

Below are our beliefs regarding teaching and learning at East Academy.

We believe that effective teachers:

  • Create opportunities for students to become facilitators of learning, collaborators, problem-solvers, and application of classroom learning to real life situations;
  • Implement strategies that promote students carrying the cognitive load;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share and discuss exemplary practices, interpret student performance data, and utilize assessments to adjust instruction to meet the varying needs of each student

We believe that successful students:

  • Employ critical and creative thinking skills to solve problems; and
  • Pose questions, examine possibilities, and apply skills to find solutions to authentic issues.
  • Make positive choices related to physical and mental wellness

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to give your child’s teacher or me a call. We look forward to another year of learning and growing together as a school community while fulfilling our mission of paving pathways to success for all of our scholars.

Sincerely,

Toby Finley

Principal, Aspire East Academy
